What is Angel’s Envy?

Angel’s Envy is a “Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels”.

So what does that mean?

Age

A “straight” bourbon must be aged for at least 2 years, and must have an age statement on the label if it’s aged less than 4 years. Our whiskey is typically aged between 4 to 6 years in new, charred 53-gallon American white oak barrels. Next, we blend the bourbon to meet our ideal flavor profile. That would be enough for other bourbons, but we take things one step further.

DOUBLE MATURATION, OR “FINISHING”

Aging in two different types of barrels is called double maturation. In the final stage of our production, we finish our bourbon for up to six additional months in 60-gallon Port barrels from Portugal. It’s blended again for the perfect flavor profile. There’s no set time for this final finishing process, it’s only Angel’s Envy when we say it is.

why port?

Scotch has been finished in fortified wine barrels like Sherry or Port for generations. So we wondered, why isn’t anyone really doing this seriously with bourbon? The finishing process can really enhance the whiskey with a subtle sweetness and complex flavors.

As we tasted our bourbon, a Port finish really seemed like it would fit our bourbon’s flavor profile perfectly. It added just the right layer of richness to our whiskey. While it took us some trial and error to figure out the ideal aging window for Angel’s Envy, we knew that we had a winner once we found it.

WE ARE ON A NEVER-ENDING PURSUIT.

We’re restless creators who respect and celebrate the bourbon tradition without being beholden to the past. We approach each spirit that we finish with a craftsman’s passion to experiment and improve, and we work every day to ensure that Lincoln Henderson’s exacting standards and legacy of excellence continue with each batch.

As a small company, we’re very particular about our finished spirits. While this might make our product a little harder to find, we will never sacrifice our quality. We’ve also never hosted or sponsored a competition in order to ‘earn’ awards. All of our high rankings and accolades have been earned the old fashioned way—unsolicited. And the reviews have been very good. But in the spirit of independence, don’t just listen to what others have to say. Pick up a bottle, try it, share it, and above all, enjoy it.
